RPM Construction — Hobbs, NM

Equipment: Vermeer® D36x50 and a StraightLine® 4″ Air Hammer System.

Ground conditions: Solid formation with a combination of sandstone and caliche.

Project Scope and Requirements: Installing a 10″ PVC pipe with certa-lock joints placed on-grade at a minus .020 to a minus .030 percent slope for gravity sewer mains. The bores varied in length from 320′ to 350′ as they connected manhole to manhole. The city specified the project to be completed using HDD to minimize cutting and restoring the street.

Featured Bore: 350′ long, the accuracy of the bore path was well inside of the prescribed window with the exit point alignment being exact. The pilot bore took just under 3 hours to complete.

Accuracy: an excavation was made so that the hammer could enter the ground at the desired depth and at the prescribed angle. The preferred slope was a minus .022% which was maintained throughout the bore. Once the bore was completed the accuracy was confirmed by a sewer inspection camera.
