Ground conditions: Solid limestone and iron rock
Project: Placing conduits for power and control cables for a wind generator farm. Bores ranged from 150-200′; installing 6-inch conduit for main electric cables to deliver the generated power & a 2-inch conduit for the control cables at a spacing of 3-feet apart. The conduits were placed by boring because the pipeline companies would not allow open cut excavation within 25-feet on either side of their pipelines. In addition the pipeline companies required at least 3-feet of separation between their pipe and the conduits that were installed.
Bore Path: entered the ground at minus 20% slope and drilled to a depth of 9′ in order to obtain the necessary clearance under an existing product pipeline and then exited the ground at a plus 20%. All bores crossed one or more product pipelines of 10 or 12-inch diameter.
Accuracy: the bore paths for the 6″ & the 2″ conduits run very evenly along the entire bore path at a distance of 3′ apart.
Equipment: Ditch Witch® JT2720 and a StraightLine® 4″ Air Hammer System.
