Equipment: Vermeer® 24x40a and a StraightLine® 5″ Air Hammer System. This combination allowed excellent penetration rates in the granite while also providing the flexibility needed to accomplish the vast grade changes.
Ground conditions: Bore length was just over 300′, the first 200′ was solid granite and the last 150′ was 60% granite and the balance was sandy loam.
Project: This project consisted of multiple bores from 200 to 600′ in length to install 6″ & 8″ pipe for a rural water system. The pictured bore entered the ground at a minus 20%, over the next 100′ the bore path was brought to level, at the 150′ mark the bore passed under a creek at a depth of 6′ under its bottom and then proceeded up the bank and exited the ground at a plus 30%.
Once the pilot hole was in place the contractor used a StraightLine® Hole Opener to enlarge the pilot hole to the required diameter for product installation. The hole opener was fitted to a Vermeer® 100x120SII.
