StraightLine & Source: HDD Move to fill an important gap in drill pipe

Anyone charged with profit responsibility has faced the duel challenges of drill pipe. First, pipe tends to be one of the biggest expense line items. Second, drill pipe is a “consumable,” requiring periodic replacement. The combination has left operators with few options beyond regular pipe maintenance as a means to control drill pipe expenses.

StraightLine and Source: HDD aims to change that.

“Part of our Ready-To-Work philosophy is helping our clients run profitable operations by identifying the right mix of tooling and equipment options,” says StraightLine: HDD President, Joe Phillips. “The introduction of our own drill pipe expands our ability to provide cost-effective solutions to our partners.”

StraightLine HDD pipe, introduced in May, is configured for Vermeer’s three most popular thread profiles ranging from a 16X20 to 24X40 Series II (with 7×11 coming soon). StraightLine/Source: HDD drill pipe features:
• One piece forged upsets are designed to yield the strongest connection possible by maximizing the thickness at the upset and strengthen the area at the tube intersection.
• Manufactured from 4145 alloy
• Heat-treated to a minimum 135,000lbf
• Media-blasted connections insure superior lubrication surfaces

“Our pipe is engineered to be the longest-lasting, toughest on the market,” says Phillips. “Yet, because of our efficiencies in manufacturing technology and inventory depth, we are able to offer our pipe at industry-leading pricing.”
